The first two years...
(written in such a way that art directors like me,
can understand it as well.)
Wow that went fast.
It's actually closer to 2.5 years already by now. Started out in an office without windows. No daylight, just artificial computer light. I worked for a while with Jay Taub.
(according to all the account ladies the sexiest man on the creative floor) So they stopped by all the time. Thanks Jay. Worked on the introduction of a soft drink. 6 presentations that went great. Everything died. Shot a commercial for another client which seemed funny at the time. Now not so much.
After 3 months my team partner arrived. Icaro Doria from Brazil. The only thing he said for the first couple of weeks were Austin Powers quotes. Not a good thing for a copywriter, but he turned out alright. Because of him we got to move to a window office. Because he did the flags campaign. I am still in the same office now. Great view of Manhattan.
Worked on a pitch for 3 months. Learned a lot about tires. More than I actually wanted to know. Started presenting stuff to Tony Granger. Yes. I was nervous. Discovered company tickets for all kinds of sport events. Good tickets, close to the field. In the beginning it felt like I would never produce anything. But bit by bit things started to trickle through. Started working more and more with Jan Jacobs and Leo Premutico. They were able to take a basic idea and turn it into something great. Learned a lot.
After that I basically stuck to that. Show them ideas and hope they pick it up. If they did, it would probably rock. Got to go on a couple of trips. Ventured out into the glorious glorious world of the corporate credit card. Became better and better in doing my expense reports. Became the godfather of a tiny Swedish boy. Switched team partners. Started working with Brian Ahern. A tall beer/football loving American, Who quit Saatchi after 2 months of working with me. Hopefully not because of me but because of the offer that Goodby made him.
While looking for a new partner I worked a lot with MAS grads, Julia Neumann and Michael Schachtner. Produced a lot of stuff. The German work ethic is still good. After that started working with Scott Cooney. He has lots and lots of experience. Which makes me look good too. Thanks Scott.Soon Gerry Graf will start. Our new Chief Creative Officer. Very curious how that will be.Hoping that I get to keep my office.
