QUARTER AWAY - Art Direction

THE WORLD AWAITS. CHOSE FROM THREE DIFFERENT TYPES OF PROGRAMS.

BASE SCHOOLS
Enroll at any one of Miami Ad School's Base Schools: Miami, Minneapolis, Hamburg, Madrid, San Francisco, Sao Paulo, Berlin, Istanbul, New York*, Mexico City, Sydney or Buenos Aires.  In each city, your instructors will be working industry professionals who will teach you what you need to know to be successful in the business today.  Check the website for instructors and descriptions of the  courses you'll take.

You'll stay at your Base School for your first year (quarters 1-4) of school. You can take your entire two year program at your Base School or choose the option of spending a second year (quarters 5-8) doing internships in our Quarter Away program*¹.
Base Schools, in addition to being the places to get the fundamentals down, also make wonderful Quarter Away locations.  Absorb a different culture and change your perspective while taking classes from professionals in a new city.  It can be a great choice for your first Q.A. experience.

GREENHOUSE INTERNSHIPS
After spending the first year at a Base School, the Quarter Away program allows students to study and intern in up to four more cities: Amsterdam, Beijing, Berlin, Boulder, Brussels, Budapest, Chicago, Dallas, Dubai, Hamburg, London, Miami, Minneapolis, Moscow, Paris, San Francisco, Sao Paulo, Shanghai, Stockholm and Sydney are just some of the possible choices.

You can apply for a Greenhouse Internship during 5th-8th quarters. In a Greenhouse Internship, an ad agency gives dedicated space where up to a dozen Miami Ad School students can spend each day of the quarter working on their assignments.
Your instructors are creative directors, art directors, copywriters, account planners, photographers and designers from that agency and other agencies in the city. Who better to learn from than the industry's leading professionals?

In addition to working on your class projects, and focusing on creative pieces for your portfolio, you'll have the opportunity to work on some of the agency's client projects and new business pitches. You'll see how an agency functions on a day-to-day basis because you'll be working in the middle of it.

What is in it for the agency, you ask?  They get a continually renewed source of fresh thinking. They also get the first glimpse of the next generation of creative talent. Miami Ad School has Greenhouse Internship partnerships with agencies in many cities.

AGENCY INTERNSHIPS
In your 6th through 8th quarters, you can apply for agency internships.  Miami Ad School has internships for our students in over a dozen cities around the world.  There are over 250 internship slots a year to choose from.  And these aren't coffee-fetching internships.  You'll work alongside agency creatives, many times on the same assignments.  Interning students have created and sold TV commercials, print ads, websites and radio spots.  Some graduates won their first professional awards for work they did as interns.  Not too shabby, eh?

*Please Note: New York base students do one quarter away in their 8th quarter within New York in either an Agency Internship or Greenhouse Internship.

¹ International students within the United States can intern with any agency outside of the United States as well as go to Greenhouses and Base Schools in Miami, New York, Minneapolis, San Francisco and any outside of the United States. Due to visa regulations, International students are not eligible to intern within the US.

NEW YORK INTERNSHIP AT BBDO

Students can spend up to four quarters studying in different cities. For example, a student can spend one year in their full-time school in Minneapolis, then spend the 5th quarter in Miami, 6th quarter in London, 7th quarter in San Francisco and the 8th and final quarter in Hamburg.

Barbara Leao AD/5 Madrid QA San Francisco
Berta Sanchez AD/5 Madrid QA San Francisco

It's Barbara and Berta from San Francisco!

What we wanted to tell you is that we love San Francisco, is amazing! And the school is great! The design they teach here is really good. Our favorite teachers are Nelson Carnicelli, Web Design teacher, the way he speaks is really funny, we are learning a lot of curse words with him, haha, and Laura Derry, Improv teacher, she is completely crazy, but we enjoy dancing and performing very much in her class.

Last weekend we spent a typical Halloween night, and it was very funny cause we went out with all the Miami students. We send you some photos so that you can see our crazy costumes.

We have already visited Alcatraz, and the SF view from there is amazing, you can see the whole city! We send you a photo too, and also a few more of our house and some SF great views.

Cheers,
Barbara and Berta

Patrick Buchanan and Ming-mei Hung are
interning in the Philippines at BBDO Guerrero Ortega

Hi guys-
I just wanted to send you some visual documentation of my recent adventures.
I stayed in the jungle in a bamboo hut this weekend. It was really like the final frontier. I've never been anywhere so wild before. It just makes me realize (even more thoroughly) how many people waste their entire lives away doing meaningless shit, and then wonder why they aren't happier.

See you soon-
Patrick

---
I hope this term finds you well! Also, check out www.bbdo-go.com. My partner (CW) interviewed me for it (there is also an interview of Patrick if you keep scrolling down). I am currently working on Cannes Initiatives and Pepsi. They are working me hard (definitely good) and give me good briefs. I don't feel like I'm treated like an intern (which I didn't realize how much I'd appreciate). I was surprised to find how "American" the Philippines is culturally. Certainly more so than Hong Kong. My cousins all know the latest "hot" songs right now. My CW rocks and she's patiently teaching me Tagalog words. Right now we're waiting for "Cloverfield" to come out here (tomorrow!) so we can go see it.

I don't know if there needs to be more enticement (ha) for BBDO-GO, but we had a global network-wide pull for Gillette Venus Embrace and Fusion (new products) work for a Cannes Initiative. All the BBDO branches were asked to submit campaigns. My partners and my campaign for Venus was picked as one of the ideas to be presented to the client and they loved it. Now we are reworking it and will have it run. We're really excited about it.

Hope you are well and keeping warm (Miami is much colder in comparison right now).
Best,
Ming-mei
