If you find yourself, just occasionally, with some free time on your hand, then Sydney is not a bad place to be either. It’s consistently rated as one of the world's best cities to live. A well-known tourist guide calls us “sunny, sexy and sophisticated.” You’ll find world-class theatre, dance and music festivals, great surf wear and street fashion, museums and art galleries and restaurants featuring cuisines from around the world.
We have endless warm summers and short and mild winters. Over 20 beaches to learn to surf on. Dozens more around the harbour. Australian bush so close that waking up to shrieking cockatoos or laughing kookaburras, or meeting a brush turkey on your way to the bus stop is not uncommon. Our gentle climate and natural beauty are deceptive though. Our work pace is hard and fast. You’ll find all the major agencies in Sydney and many quirky hot shops. Doing an all-nighter on a pitch and presenting it first thing in the morning with 5 other competitors hard on your heels is par for the course. And in the evenings you’ll find the best pros teaching you.
Our school is a five-minute walk from Central Railway Station and bus terminals. Whether you live nearby in the university suburb of Newtown or Bondi Beach, a train or bus will get you to school in no time.
Surry Hills is a bohemian village close to the centre of Sydney. It’s full of old warehouses where not long ago, Sydney rag traders plied their trade. These days it’s a different kind of creative industry. Off-beat designers and vintage clothing shops mix it with idea shops, furniture designers, music promoters, photographers and publishers. On Friday nights after work, or any other night, ancient Aussie tradition dictates that everybody lets their hair down. That is if they’re not designing, pitching or studying. The neighbourhood pubs are full of friendly locals, bands tune up for their gigs, boys meet girls in trendy wine bars. Or if your energy at end of your week only gets you as far as the nearest corner café, the owner will probably greet you there with a cordial ‘G’day Mate’ and a hearty Asian noodle soup.
