  • New York Ad School Coming Soon

    WE’RE COMING TO DUMBO!

Miami Ad School is opening its next full-time school in Brooklyn which has become the the hippest area of New York City for artists, writers, film-makers  and all other varieties of creatives, particularly digital creatives. Dumbo is a haven for many of New York’s cutting edge digital agencies, such as Big Spaceship, Huge, Domani, Carrot Creative, and others.

DUMBO, an acronym for Down Under the Manhattan Bridge Overpass, is a neighborhood in the New York City borough of Brooklyn. Dumbo has two sections; one located between the Manhattan and Brooklyn Bridges, and another section which continues east from the Manhattan Bridge to the Vinegar Hill area.

The area, a former warehouse and factory district, has become one of New York City’s hottest arts districts, with art galleries, design shops, the Dumbo Arts Center, really cool book stores, coffee shops, painters and sculptors studios and such not-for-profit institutions as the St. Ann’s Warehouse performance space. Dumbo also hosts the Brooklyn Hip-Hop Festival, a celebration of Hip-Hop music and culture.  Fulton Landing in Dumbo, is also home to Bargemusic, a floating venue for classical music. You an also take water taxi to Manhattan’s financial district.

Grimaldi’s alone is reason enough to come to Dumbo, The lines stretch around the block for Grimaldi’s special pizza. But there’s also the other extreme such as River Cafe, a perfect place to entertain parents on the river’s edge. In between, there are dozens of small cafes, deli’s and bakeries.

For whatever reason, Dumbo has become a high-tech incubator for the digitally inclined who walk their dogs on the area’s cobblestone streets, There’s a puppy park adjacent to the human park known as Empire-Fulton Ferry State Park, considered the most beautiful park in New York. And it’s the only place where you have touching access to the East River. Believe it or not, you can skip stones across the water. At sunset, it’s perhaps the favorite place for serious photographers to capture the millions of lights in the skyline of New York, framed by the Brooklyn and Manhattan bridges.

  • OUR NEW DIGITAL HUB IS IN THE SHADOW OF MANHATTAN BRIDGE.

That’s the view from our windows when you walk into our school space in Dumbo; we’re smack on ther edge of the East River, nearly under the Manhattan Bridge. Many of the area’s digital agencies are only a short walk away. The school  space is in a building  with film makers, producers, digital designers as well as a few hold-overs from its manufacturing roots such as an artisian tile company.

The space is at this moment being renovated but even when finished, will still resemble its factory origins with brick walls and overhead ducts.  The walls will have giant flat panel screens, many of them touch screen.  We’ll have our trademark bleacher seating and colored rubber coated metal tables and benches. There will be a television and photo studio. You won’t see any printers; whiteboards will all be electronic with digital output. We’ll be 100% paperless.

And plans call for a start up digital agency in the adjacent space to ours.

We will have quarter away students in the space as early as the first of 2010. Keep checking back to see when we can accept new students!
