Program Length:

The photography and video program is a two-year (8 quarter) program. Each quarter is 10 weeks in length followed by a break.

Program Options:

After spending at least one year (4 quarters) in Atlanta, students can apply to our Quarter Away Program. This program gives students the opportunity to study and intern in up to four more cities around the world.

Tuition for each quarter is $4,850 per quarter/ $19,400 a year/ $38,800 total tuition cost for the 2-year program. Tuition is based on the quarter system.

It takes eight quarters (24 months) for completion of the art direction program. Financial aid is available for US Citizens.

All students must have:

  • Apple Macintosh MacBook Pro with external hard drive storage (2 TB) with maximum RAM Airport-equipped computer (approximately $1,299 to $3,000)
  • Adobe Creative Cloud membership ($19.99/month, requires annual commitment)
  • Printer accepting 11”x 17" (approximately $200 to $300)
  • Smart Phone with video
  • Smart phone accessories: grip ($160); external lenses ($160), tripod for smartphone $25); 3 LED smartphone lights ($60 to $100); GoPro ($350)
  • Zoom H5N recorder $300

* Photo/video majors may already own a SLR digital camera. If not, we suggest waiting to purchase one until you are enrolled in the program and get the advice of your photo/video instructors since technology rapidly changes with these cameras.

This is a two year diploma program with the primary purpose of developing a professional portfolio through classes and real-world experience to gain the skills needed for an entry level position in advertising.

Placement Assistance: Graduates have the opportunity to attend portfolio review and interview with multiple agencies. Miami Ad School also supplies graduates with job leads throughout their career.

An introduction to the tools that’ll bring your ideas to life: the digital SLR camera and Adobe Photoshop. You’ll learn how to put this tag team to work for you, how to process RAW Images and organization with Adobe Bridge.


Learn different types of presentation formats and get comfortable speaking and using technology in front of a group. You’ll also get the fundamentals of InDesign and Keynote, as well as iWeb for basic web design.


The ubiquity of the video and the global stage of online hosting sites give the power of the moving image to the masses. Learn cinematic styles, how to edit audio and video, and use special effects to tell a story with motion and sound.


Dig deeper into Photoshop’s capabilities and features. Not only will you become more adept at the different tools but you will use your own photos to create scenes and scenarios typically only found in ones imagination.

Get a

You’ve got the book, discovered your creative self and cultivated an online presence. Time to polish your interviewing skills, develop a career vision and meet with recruiters to find out what they look for in a candidate.


Develop your technical “chops” and nurture the “ears” required for creating tracks that deliver emotional content. A non-musician’s approach to music creation with audio acquisition, audio processing and post-production mixing.


The fundamentals of studio light: the use of scrims, reflectors, soft light, raw light and how to function in a digital studio. You will understand the mathematics behind artificial lighting as it realties to digital and traditional photography.


Learn metering for tricky available light situations while practicing your layout skills and tethering. Use photography, strategy, conceptual and photoshop skills to produce multi-layered visually impactful campaigns.

Digital Photography
in Nature

Special digital concerns when shooting the natural environment. Using Photoshop for nature photographs. Understanding histograms. White balance in nature photography. Photographing elements to composite later. RAW considerations.

Advanced Documentary

Students revisit their initial documentary story and take it to the next level and expand it. They will add in another aspect and also create a video. Extensive editing and layout and design will be worked on to display the work in the most powerful/compelling medium.


The unique light of South Florida is a perfect setting for environmental portraits.  Students photograph sea and seashore, poolside, Miami architecture and Everglade swamplands as well as the totally opposite environment of the Appalachian mountains and picturesque villages.

Models, Actors, Characters
and Their Faces

A pretty famous writer once said all the world is a stage- this is your chance to capture it in theatrical portraiture.


From live action to stop motion to video and shooting for YouTube, this class will be an extensive exploration of all the various requirements of imaging moving objects.


Students will travel to the Florida Everglades, Florida cities and travel to the mountains and small towns of Georgia and North Carolina photographing surrounding scenery, people and events.

and Social Media

We explore different apps for smartphone photography and then use those apps to create and promote your work through social media.

Giants of

You will learn who the iconic photographers are, become familiar with the pictures that made them icons and then recreate some of their most well known photographs. Looks are deceiving; you may find it’s not as easy as a pro makes it look.


This class will discuss the special considerations of photographing buildings, both the exterior and interior. They will learn the solutions of location lighting, perspective control and exposure.


Students will explore three areas of Advertising photography; food, products, accessories. Class will include estimating and pricing a job and assignments will be presented as if being presented to a client. From start to finish, concept execution, to a check in your hand.


The focus of this class is to finalize the student’s portfolio in several formats: an on-line printed book, a presentation in iPad format and a traditional printed portfolio.  Students review the business aspects of photography and video including best practices, organization and strategies for success.

Libations &
Gourmet Foods

An emphasis on shooting in the studio and mastering such difficult problems as glassware and reflective surfaces. Students will also focus on food styling and presentation. Learn the magic of making food look appetizing and some of the tricks used as well.

Final Exhibition

The student will develop a comprehensive exhibition of work;  find a suitable exhibition place; and have an exhibition opening.


This is an exciting quarter of sexy people, styling, make up, posing and propping. Students will learn to control strobe lights in the studio and on location. Learn to style, concept and make mood boards to convey your idea. BONUS: Hang out with beautiful people in gorgeous locations.

Shooting in a variety of locations, indoors and outdoors. How to control light when you can’t control light. Digital advantages and disadvantages. Intro to Architectural Photography.


Experiments in
Digital Photo

Sculpt light. Re-color the world. Magnify. Reduce. Blur. Sharpen. Capture. Release. Record a decisive moment or make one. This class explores techniques in using the digital camera as a tool in visual experimentation.


After learning the basics in Video Storytelling, take Adobe Creative Cloud to the next level by creating short films. Explore the classic narrative structure by analyzing films, commercials and branded entertainment.
